As one of the dedicated Container Refund Points, The Exchange Shed plays a vital role in the Containers for Change scheme, serving as the face of the program in Jimboomba and surrounding areas. We empower the community to make a positive environmental impact by recycling the 3 billion drink containers used annually across Queensland. By offering a range of return solutions, including drive-through depots, bag drops, and commercial collections, we provide convenience for all—from individuals to larger commercial groups.

As part of a broader network of operators that includes commercial businesses, social enterprises, and community groups, we are proud to contribute to job creation, support local economies, and assist in fundraising efforts for local schools and organizations. At The Exchange Shed, we ensure a seamless experience by counting and sorting containers, paying refunds, and preparing materials for transport to processors.

Where do our containers go?

Refund point operators sort the containers into material types after they’re returned by customers. Generally, the sorted containers are transported to a processing facility. Here, the processor prepares the material for recycling – usually by crushing the materials into bales.

Accredited recyclers purchase the materials off a secure online auction portal which they recycle into new products. If the materials are recycled into a new eligible container, the journey starts again!
